5 Easy Ways to Manage Stress
Stress can leave you feeling sick and tired by taking away all your energy, leaving you angry, anxious and depressed. In addition to the emotional roller coaster that you have to suffer through, it's also the cause of other health issues like high blood pressure, chronic headaches, stomach problems, and even heart disease. Although stressful situations are often out of your control, how you react to it is within your powers.
Learning how to manage and ultimately master stress is a skill that everyone should know, to live a calmer, healthier and ultimately better life.
· Meditate. Even if you have a very hectic schedule, set aside some time to meditate. Five to ten minutes of mindfulness can make a big difference in your life. Start the day with a short meditation session to clear your head and get moving on a good note. Meditation allows you to relax and have a fresher perspective on your day. Using some scented candles or incense that you enjoy can also help put a smile on your face.
· Exercise. Experts know that exercise can boost your mood and help you feel better throughout the day. Any form of physical activity that gets you moving and sweating will release endorphins into your system. You can do simple exercises like jogging, light aerobics, even walking around the block.
· Eat healthy. Avoid too much caffeine and sugar, eat more fruits and vegetable daily and add in healthy sources of protein and fat. When you're stressed it's common to go for comfort food like ice cream and chocolate. But the temporary sugar high will end all too quickly, leaving you feeling drained and exhausted for the rest of the day.
· Spend time with family and friends. When you're feeling down, try to surround yourself with people who make you happy. These are the people who care for your well being, so talk to them, go and do something fun as a group and enjoy yourself.
· Talk to a counselor. If you can't handle the stress and anxiety, seek professional help. Take some counseling sessions and discuss with your therapist what you're going through.
Stress doesn't have to be a constant in your life, you ultimately have control and can change it for the better.
