Shockwave Therapy

What is Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave Therapy uses acoustic pressure waves at a very high energy with a single pulse. It was first used in 1980 to treat kidney stones. Today it is used to treat pain, sports injuries, musculoskeletal disorders, plantar fasciitis/heel spurs, tennis elbow, plantaer fascitis, patellar femoral syndrome and rotator cuff tendinopathy. A gel is applied to the point of injury, and the doctor uses a wand with acoustic pressure waves that treats the injury. Most patients feel a pulsating sensation and mild discomfort during treatment.

This therapy is used for painful stiff shoulders, lower back pain, hip pain, muscular distention, tendinitis , and more. It is used in sports medicine because it heals the soft tissue and generates new growth and healing. This therapy has an 80 percent success rate. It is a noninvasive procedure that takes about 5 to 10 minutes. Often patients require three to five treatments.

Treatment for Sports Injuries

Athletes and those that participate in sport often get painful injuries. This therapy has been effective in healing sports injuries. This therapy treats muscle strain and spasms, ligaments, back, knees, neck, shins, tendons, and bones. In acute injuries the tissue in the body often swells and the pain increases quickly.

Signs and symptoms of injury can be severe pain, stiffness, bruising, muscle spasms, limited movement, weak joints, and swelling. Treatment is quite simple. The doctor prepares the painful spot by palpitation. Then, they apply the gel to the injured area and use the acoustic pressure wand.

This therapy repairs damaged tissues, reduces pain, inflammation, and increases blood flow. It is done in the office and requires no down time. There is no chance for infection and healing is faster and easier for patients.
